Auditions for the 2026 season have now concluded
We have now begun our casting process as auditions and callbacks are completed. We anticipate our casting process to take place during the end of February and into March. You will hear from us whether you are cast or not, and there is no additional information needed from you unless specifically requested. Communication will also be sent once all casting is complete. Thank you!
Casting Timeline
If you are planning to audition in-person, callback information will be sent prior to our in-person callbacks which take place on February 15. If you've auditioned in person and are unable to attend in person callbacks, arrangements for digital callbacks will be made.
If you've submitted digitally, we anticipate callback information going out on/around February 1.
From there, we will begin our casting process. We anticipate our casting process to take place during the end of February and into March. You will hear from us whether you are cast or not, and there is no additional information needed from you unless specifically requested. Communication will also be sent once all casting is complete. While the exact rehearsal schedule will be unique to each production, those offered a role should expect to rehearse 5-6 days a week for the duration of the stated rehearsal period. Rehearsals during the week (Monday-Thursday) are anticipated to take place in the afternoon/evening whereas weekend rehearsals (Saturday & Sunday) could take place in the morning, afternoon, or evening hours. Please list all conflicts with this potential schedule in your audition form.

Character Descriptions

Zelda Zanders: (Female Presenting, 20-40s) A flapper socialite and actress on her ninth marriage, she is Lina’s friend and informant.
R.F. Simpson: (Male Presenting, 50-70s) A successful, magnanimous, film producer. He leads the other characters in creating a new movie musical.
Roscoe Dexter: (Male Presenting, 20-40s) A famous film director with theatrical mannerisms and tendencies. Frequently frazzled and works with Lina and Don.
Cosmo Brown: (Male Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: C3-Ab4) A wacky and playful on-set pianist for silent films. Don’s best friend and former dance partner. Comedic timing and dance skills a must.
Lina Lamont: (Female Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: C4-Eb5) A slow-witted silent film diva with a big personality and a harshly unpleasant voice. She is Don’s regular co-star. Must dance.
Don Lockwood: (Male Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: G2-Ab4) A suave Hollywood actor and dancer. Cosmo’s best friend and Lina’s regular co-star. Must tap.
Rod: (Male Presenting, 20-40s) An excitable film agent bordering on manic. He works for Simpson.
Kathy Selden: (Female Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: G3-F5) An earnest, talented actress with wit and charm. She falls in love with Don and performs as Lina’s speaking and singing voice. Must dance.
Production Singer: (Male Presenting, 20s-40s, Vocal Range: Db3-Ab4) The lead tenor in Monumental Pictures’ first movie musical.
Miss Dinsmore: (Female Presenting, 30-50s) Lina’s vocal coach. She is the “mother hen” type with caring affection for the younger performers.
Young Don and Young Cosmo: These will be cast from our children’s auditions.
Ensemble: Strong dancers and character actors.

Marty: (Female Presenting, 40-50s) The class instructor and co-executive director of the Community Center. Teaches pottery, jewelry making, and youth drama. A hippie, creative type. Married to James. Is close with her stepdaughter.
Theresa: (Female Presenting, 30-40s) Confident, passionate former professional actor. Moved from NYC to be closer to aging parents and to leave a toxic relationship. Studying for a certificate in acupressure. Wants to make a difference.
Schultz: (Male Presenting, 40-50s) A recently divorced carpenter who still wears his wedding ring. Sensitive and a bit awkward. His mother died when he was a child. Met his ex-wife in college. He is “a really good artist”.
James: (Male Presenting, 50-60s) A mellow middle-aged professor. Married to Marty, his 2nd wife. Estranged from his 23-year old daughter but doesn’t want to be. Worries he is becoming like his abusive father.
Lauren: (Female Presenting, 16-25) A shy teenager. Her parents are constantly fighting. Wants to study either theatre and dance or be a vet. Frustrated with Marty’s teaching methods of theatre games which she doesn’t consider is real acting.

Matilda Wormwood: (Female Presenting, 8-13, Vocal Range: Bb3-D5) The hero of the show. She’s brilliant, resilient, creative, and kind, despite growing up in difficult circumstances. Her parents treat her poorly, but Matilda escapes into a world of books, which puts her reading level far above the other children in her class, and she develops a bit of magical power in an effort to defeat Trunchbull.
Eric: (Male Presenting, 8-13, Vocal Range: C3-Eb4) A student at school with Matilda. He has the very first solo line of the entire show. He also has some featured moments as one of Matilda’s schoolmates.
Amanda: (Female Presenting, 8-13, Vocal Range: C4-Eb5) A student at school with Matilda. She has a few solos and lines, but her most featured moment is when Trunchbull throws her through the air using her pigtails.
Bruce: (Male Presenting, 8-14, Vocal Range: C3-F#4) One of Matilda’s schoolmates. He has the bad luck to get caught after eating Trunchbull’s cake. Bruce goes through quite a transformation throughout the show and has some important solos. Must be a strong singer.
Hortensia: (Female Presenting, 8-14, Vocal Range: C4-D5) Classmate of Matilda who has solos, and has a few lines.
Alice: (Female Presenting, 8-14, Vocal Range: C4-D5) Classmate of Matilda who has solos, and has a few lines.
Tommy: (Male Presenting, 8-14, Vocal Range: C3-Eb4) Classmate of Matilda who has solos, and has a few lines.
Lavender: (Female Presenting, 8-13, Vocal Range: C4-D5) One of the kids at school with Matilda. She is kind and bright (though not as brilliant as Matilda) and quickly decides that Matilda is her best friend.
Nigel: (Male Presenting, 8-13, Vocal Range: C3-D4) One of the kids at school with Matilda. He is enthusiastic, sweet, and always in a bit of a panic. Nigel has a few solos and some great featured moments in the show.
Mr. Wormwood: (Male Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: Baritone) Matilda’s father. He is egotistical, rude, and not very bright, not to mention a liar. Though Mr. Wormwood is not a good person and he is mean to Matilda, his harebrained schemes can be hilariously funny.
Mrs. Wormwood: (Female Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: Mezzo) Matilda’s mother. Like her husband, she dislikes Matilda and does not understand why her daughter loves to read. Mrs. Wormwood is selfish, obsessed with her own appearance, and believes everything she sees on TV. Her dancing lessons with Rudolpho are the most important part of her day. Must dance.
Michael: (Male Presenting, 10-15) Matilda’s brother. He is not very bright, though he is the apple of his father’s eye.
Mrs. Phelps: (Female Presenting, 20-60s) The kindly librarian who loves hearing Matilda’s stories.
Escapologist: (Male Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: E3-F3) A character of Matilda’s creation. Everything this character does is grand and exaggerated – he’s performing for the cheap seats!
Acrobat: (Female Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: D4-A4) A product of Matilda’s imagination.
Miss Honey: (Female Presenting, 20-30s, Vocal Range: Bb3-D5) A teacher at Matilda’s school. She is kind, is generous, and really cares about the children despite her own desperate circumstances.
Agatha Trunchbull: (Any gender, 30-60s, Vocal Range: C4-F#5) The quintessential terrifying tyrant. As headmistress, she runs her school like a dictator, making up arbitrary rules to suit her every whim and dreaming up creative punishments.
Rudolpho: (Male Presenting, 20-40s) Mrs. Wormwood’s self-obsessed dance teacher. Must dance.
Sergei: (Male Presenting, 20-50s) A customer swindled by Mr. Wormwood. Though he shows up looking for payback, Matilda has had quite enough of revenge, and Sergei lets the Wormwoods escape.
Ensemble: Ensemble roles include Russians, Little Kids, Big Kids (including Big Kid 1, Big Kid 2, and Big Kid 3), Kids, Mums, Dads, the Cook, and the Mechanic.

Sweeney Todd: (Male Presenting, 30-50s, Vocal Range: F2-Gb4) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focussed on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist.
Anthony Hope: (Male Presenting, 20-30s, Vocal Range: Bb2-F4) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.
Johanna: (Female Presenting, 20-30s, Vocal Range: Bb3-A5) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward.
Tobias Ragg: (Male Presenting, 20s, Vocal Range: Bb2-Ab4) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett.
Judge Turpin: (Male Presenting, 40-60s, Vocal Range: E2-Gb4) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd.
The Beadle: (Male Presenting, 20-50s, Vocal Range: D3-D5) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin.
Beggar Woman: (Female Presenting, 20-40s, Vocal Range: Ab3-F5) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret.
Adolfo Pirelli: (Any gender, 20-40s, Vocal Range: B2-C5) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past.
Jonas Fogg: (Any gender, 20-60s) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers.
